Electronic Arts recently announced the return of its rally game WRC for consoles and PCs. As part of the announcement, the company also divulged that the PC edition of EA Sports WRC will feature VR support. Albeit in a post-launch update.
Built by racing specialists Codemasters, EA Sports WRC will deliver: “longer, more detailed stages than previously possible” the studio claims.
“This is the rally game we’ve always wanted to make, combining our studio’s deep knowledge and expertise with the power of the official WRC license representing the pinnacle of rally motorsport,” said Ross Gowing, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters in a statement. “The game’s new engine has enabled us to push rally to the edge of what’s deemed possible, and the additional features, including Builder and Moments, give players even more ways to interact with the sport they love.”
Next-gen rallying
There will be 18 official FIA World Rally Championship locations totalling over 600km of stages. Players will be able to jump in 10 current WRC, WRC2, and Junior WRC vehicles as well as 68 of the most iconic rally cars. Whilst a new advanced Dynamic Handling System has been designed using feedback from drivers. Players can choose a professional driver set-up mirroring the experience drivers encounter every race week.
When you’re not competing in the single-player championship there’s the 32-player cross-platform multiplayer to enjoy.
Not much has been detailed regarding the VR component. It will be PCVR-exclusive, putting you right in the heart-pounding action.
EA Sports WRC is scheduled to arrive for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via EA App, Epic Store, and Steam on 3rd November 2023. If you pre-order the game digitally then you’ll receive up to three days of early access starting 31st October 2023. You’ll also get five VIP passes, each containing additional post-launch content, vanity packs consisting of liveries and apparel.
As for the post-launch VR update, that has yet to be confirmed. Whilst you’re waiting you can always try some of XR Source’s Best VR Racing Games selection.
