This week VR studio Might Eyes confirmed a June release date for its remake of Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate. Coinciding with the PSVR 2 anniversary, the announcement came with a new gameplay trailer. This showcased the visual overhaul and various new mechanics. However, quietly revealed at the end was a sequel tease for Wanderer 2: The Seas of Fortune.
Up until this point, Might Eyes has concentrated on promoting Fragments of Fate. So it’s exciting to hear that Wanderer 2 is planned. Almost no details exist for the sequel, other than it is in development and has a pirate theme. Yes, that’s correct, Wanderer 2: The Seas of Fortune will not only be setting sail on the high seas, but you’ll be a pirate as well. That’s what we surmise from the classic skull and cutlass flag shown in the video.
Yet Wanderer is a time-travelling adventure, so will this nautical tale be set across different eras like before? Or will it purely take place between the 1650s and the 1730s, considered the Golden Age of Piracy?
Wandering the high seas
One of the best parts of Wanderer was the ability to visit notably different eras in humanity’s history. If Wanderer 2 is mostly pirate themed then it’s going down a videogame industry trope being heavily worn out by other games. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Sea of Thieves, Return to Monkey Island and, most recently, Ubisoft’s ill-fated Skull & Bones are just some available.
For VR pirate fans there’s less choice, Bootstrap Island has just launched into early access. Then there’s Battlewake, Furious Seas and Buccaneers! So there’s plenty of room for Wanderer 2 to make its mark.
There’s been no mention of how far along Wanderer 2: The Seas of Fortune development is or what platforms it’ll support.
As for Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, that’s now set to launch for Meta Quest, PSVR 2, Pico and SteamVR on 27th June 2024.
