Genotype Combat Update Lands Ahead of PSVR 2 Launch

Bloverk Games’ Genotype launched late last year as a BioShock inspired VR FPS. Today, the studio has announced the launch of an update for the game. Promising a ‘complete overhaul’ of the combat in Genotype, this new update is available for Meta Quest players now, and will be included in the upcoming PSVR 2 and PC VR versions from day one.

In Genotype, you print organisms and use them as weapons and tools. You explore a metroidvania FPS adventure on large non-linear maps. Keeping in line with its inspiration, you can morph yourself to become smaller. Upgrade your weapons and locate collectibles as you advance to the next boss.

Genotype Combat Update

XR Source has previously reported on this new Combat Update. But for those of you who missed it, here’s the key details of the update verbatim from Bolverk Games:

  • 5 new radically different weaponized creatures.
  • New upgrade system giving you more choice in how you deal with enemies.
  • Improved combat spaces to enhance your adrenaline flow.
  • New enemies, fine-tuned behaviors, and better boss fights.
  • Rebalanced loot amounts and ammo costs.
  • 4 difficulty settings and many accessibility options.
  • Even more lore to find in the facility.
  • Atmospheric synth-scapes, fully voice acted.

That’s an impressive amount of changes. However, it’s not all that the development team have done to improve the game. The Combat Update is the fifth improvement since Genotype’s launch in October 2023. Here’s everything we’ve seen so far:

21/10/2023   Patch 1:        Difficulty settings and more
07/11/2023   Update 1:     Quest 3 visual
10/11/2023   Update 2:     Resolution to PCVR levels
25/11/2023   Patch 2:        Exploration and lore
8/02/2024     Update 3:     Combat, Monsters, Weapons

Bolverk Games are certainly keen to make Genotype a big success, even going so far as to offer a price drop only a month after launch. And with even more cost incentive, Genotype is going on sale alongside today’s ‘relaunch’. The game can now be purchased with a 40% discount.

Genotype is available for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 via the Meta Quest Store. The game will soon launch for PC VR via Steam, and on PlayStation 5 for PSVR2. It will also receive localisation for Japanese, Korean, simplified Chinese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish. However, no dates for any of these future activities have yet been revealed.
