The popular TV show Survivorman featuring Les Stroud became a VR game for Meta Quest late last year. Called Survivorman VR: The Descent, developer VRKiwi has announced that PSVR 2 and PCVR (via Steam) editions are coming. A dual launch has been confirmed for February.
Like the TV show, Survivorman VR: The Descent is a survival adventure sim where you find yourself as the sole survivor of a helicopter crash. You’re now trapped on an Arctic mountain, but thankfully you have Stroud on hand to stop you freezing to death.
With an expert to hand you’ll learn essential skills to keep yourself alive whilst exploring the hostile environment. Even with Stroud’s help, this is no easy walk. You’ll need to find food, shelter, and warmth, ensuring every decision you make is a choice between life and death.
Survivorman VR: The Descent on PSVR 2 & Steam
The game is filled with dangerous terrain and difficult puzzles to solve. A device on your wrist provides vital metrics as to your health: your body temperature and calorie level. These must be maintained in order to escape the Arctic hellhole you find yourself in. However, ignoring this information can cause detrimental health effects that will eventually lead to death.
To help ensure a realistic experience, Survivorman VR: The Descent features realistic-looking 3D avatars. Stroud has been digitised and brought to life using Cream Production’s patented proprietary technology Dynamic Digital Humans (DDH).
Additionally, the PSVR2 and Steam versions of Survivorman VR: The Descent feature significantly improved graphics over the Meta Quest release.
The game will be available on PSVR2 and Steam from 15th February 2024. If you own the Metsa Quest edition then a significant update featuring new content is scheduled to hit the Quest Store simultaneously with the PSVR2 launch.
