There are some good survival adventure games in VR, such as Green Hell VR and Song in the Smoke. However, there have yet to be any that are based around any of the popular survival programs you find on TV. That’s set to change this week with the launch of Survivorman VR: The Descent for Meta Quest headsets.
As you might have guessed from the title, the game is based on the highly popular Survivorman which ran for 18 years. Developed by Cream Productions, just like the show the game features survival legend Les Stroud. It is a reality-based survival simulator set in the Canadian Arctic that tests the mettle of would-be survivalists.
Surviving the Arctic wilderness
Like any good survival experience, you’ve got a think quickly and use vital skills to stay alive. You survive a helicopter crash in the Arctic mountains and must find a way down safely. Descend cliff faces, and learn to navigate icy ravines and treacherous rivers all under the guidance of Stroud.
Survivorman VR: The Descent features:
- Learn from a True Survival Legend: Les Stroud is an iconic survivalist who has proven time and time again he’s the best there is at what he does. Lucky for you, he’ll be your guide during your own authentic survival experience in Survivorman VR.
- Photorealistic First-Person Action: Explore a truly immersive world that will include all of the extremes of mountain-top survival
- Fire, Shelter, Food: Surviving extreme environments means paying attention to the state of your body. Keep a close eye on your body temperature, fatigue, and hunger. Using a handy diegetic HUD-like display mounted on your wrist!
- Cutting Edge VR Tech: Les Stroud is brought to life using Cream’s patented proprietary technology Dynamic Digital Humans (DDH), created in partnership with Sheridan’s SIRT, to produce realistic-looking 3D avatars for VR and AR
Survivorman VR: The Descent will be available to buy from the Quest Store on 18th October 2023. Lastly, a PCVR version on Steam is also planned.
