There aren’t many VR games currently slated for January but of those that are Townsman VR is one of the earliest to arrive. A medieval city-building game, unusually, Townsmen VR has arrived solely for Meta Quest 3.
Developed by HandyGames, Townsmen VR was originally released for Oculus Rift and PSVR back in 2018. The team then brought the builder to Steam in 2022. Now, it has been ported to Meta Quest 3, but not Quest 2 or Quest Pro. This is odd considering almost all Quest games work across Meta’s headsets. And the fact that Quest 2 has the bigger install base.

Building your new town
Like any city builder, you start small, beginning with a humble settlement. From there you can grow your community into a thriving township filled with builders, farmers, hunters, and soldiers. Comprising a full, single-player campaign, Townsmen VR‘s story unfolds across 13 diverse islands and archipelagos, with 20 upgradable buildings to unlock.
From your God-like overview, you can pick up and place structures however you see fit. Deploy further strategy by carefully optimising transport routes within your village. You can then assign jobs and tasks to your virtual villagers, creating a supply chain and a flourishing economy. However, this is the medieval era so you need to ensure your settlement is protected. Hire soldiers to guard your town and arm them with bows, crossbows and catapults to fend off raiders.
In addition to the campaign, there’s a sandbox mode. This gives you free rein to build your town however you wish, but you’ll need to unlock islands and buildings in the campaign first.
Townsmen VR is out now for Meta Quest 3 priced at $29.99 USD/£22.99 GBP.
