RapidEyeMovers and Wolf & Wood launched C-Smash VRS for PSVR 2 during the summer, proving to be a hit with players. Now the teams have revealed what’s in store for the future, unveiling the C-Smash VRS update for January 2024.
Arriving next month will be Leaderboards, a host of innovative Accessibility features and quality-of-life improvements. Teasing future plans, the developers confirm that C-Smash VRS “will expand to more players than ever before”. This suggests at least one or more new VR platforms.
“We had an incredible response to our game on PSVR 2,” said Jörg Tittel, Director at RapidEyeMovers in a statement. “Our game drew in big crowds and made them move at some of the biggest events including Bit Summit, WASD x IGN and EGX. Next year, we’ll make the game accessible to more players, regardless of physical ability and perhaps even hardware?”
C-Smashing into 2024
The January update will be the second major enhancement of the game since its launch. The first arrived in September, adding co-op, the Infinity mode, a music player, new stages and more.
“The previous update was huge, we added everything from the planned roadmap and more based on feedback, such as the Versus Bot,” said Ryan Bousfield, Creative Director of Wolf & Wood. “Although, given the continued interest and excitement around the game, we have decided that there is room for more. The new leaderboards will add some healthy competition to what is generally a pretty relaxed game.”
C-Smash VRS has also picked up and been nominated for several accolades. It was awarded Best Sports Game from Cross Button VR, nominated for Best VR Game at the Golden Joysticks 2023 and nominated in four categories for the official PlayStation Blog Game of the Year Awards 2023 – Best Multiplayer Experience, Best Sports Game and PS VR2 Game of the Year.
