When Meta started to up its marketing efforts for the Quest 3 during the summer, it showcased the improvements over Quest 2. These, quite naturally, feature graphical enhancements of preexisting games like Red Matter 2. Another was Skydance Interactive’s zombie adventure The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. Expected to arrive around the launch of Quest 3, the upgrade is now earmarked for a January 2024 release.
As Skydance Interactive has previously highlighted, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is getting a major graphical overhaul. Thanks to Quest 3’s new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, the zombie survival game will become richer and more detailed. Environments will have great draw distances so you can see zombies further, plus there will be more of them!
The Walking Dead on Quest 3
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners was a huge success for Skydance Interactive, and helped spawn a sequel, Chapter 2: Retribution. The latter didn’t quite live up to the original, which is probably why the studio decided to enhance the game for Quest 3.
Arriving back in 2020, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners wasn’t based on AMC’s TV show of the same name. Instead, Skydance collaborated with Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by Robert Kirkman. He was one of the original creators of The Walking Dead comic book series. Set in the same universe, the VR game featured a brand-new, original storyline set within the streets of New Orleans.
You play a drifter called The Tourist, who wanders into the zombie-filled streets to discover the undead aren’t the only danger. The gameplay revolves around a daily fight for survival, sneaking through abandoned homes and scavenging for food a useful items. You then have to head back to base before nightfall where you can craft new weapons and items. It’s then up to you whether to sneak about using knives and other bladed weapons to remain undetected. Or use guns that’ll attract the hordes and human factions.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will enjoy a new lease of life on Meta Quest 3 from 16th January 2024. You can take a look at the new trailer here.
