Phasmophobia Console Port Woes Continue

We’re halfway through October’s spooky season with titles like The 7th Guest VR and Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord still to look forward to. However, one game that won’t be joining that list is Phasmophobia. The popular co-op ghost hunting game was originally slated to arrive for consoles in August, then October. But the Phasmophobia console port is still a way off it seems.

In a recent developer update on the Phasmophobia Steam page, the studio revealed that work is still ongoing. “As we still try to adapt to our new remote working life after the fire incident and to establish a new office, we’ve encountered unforeseen challenges in adapting the game for consoles. These combined factors have affected our development timeline more than we initially anticipated.”

While the will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, it seems that part of the hold has to do with PSVR 2. “Additionally, in preparation for the PlayStation VR2 launch, we have been diligently reviewing the game’s performance and optimizing it across all maps to ensure a seamless experience for all of our console players,” Kinetic Games explains. “In this regard, we had to rework Maple Lodge Campsite with a completely new layout (more information below). This decision, though time-consuming for our art team, is essential to provide the best possible gameplay experience.”

Phasmophobia Delayed

All of this means Kinetic Games no longer has a release window for the Phasmophobia console port. “We will keep you updated on our progress and provide a revised release date as soon as we have more information to share. We are working diligently to minimize the impact of this delay,” the team adds.

While PlayStation and Xbox wait for the port, PC players on Steam will be treated to a Halloween event. Phasmophobia‘s Maple Lodge Campsite has been reworked and improved. It now features a new reception building, more hiding spots, new decorative assets and better performance. The Halloween event will kick off around the 26th October, where players are tasked with creating a potion. To do so they’ll have to hunt down recipe cards found on various levels, then take them back to the campsite. Completing the event will reward players with a new ID card badge and a new trophy.
