Phasmophobia Console Launch Delayed

August is drawing to a close and the one PSVR 2 game we’ve not yet seen is Phasmophobia. Kinetic Games had originally scheduled the release for this month. However, the Phasmophobia console launch has now been delayed until October.

In a statement, Kinetic Games outlined why the delay has taken place. “Due to a recent fire incident in our office building and unpredicted development issues, our ability to test and develop has been significantly impacted.

“After careful consideration we have made the tough decision to delay the console release, initially set for August, while we get everything sorted. We are now aiming for a special launch during the week leading up to Halloween this October. This gives us the needed time to perfect and fine-tune everything. Your patience and understanding mean everything to us, and we can’t wait to bring Phasmophobia to consoles.”

Still in early access on Steam, Phasmophobia has been a runaway hit since its launch in 2020. Supporting both flatscreen and VR gameplay, this psychological horror is focused on 4 player online co-op. Which is why everyone’s so excited for the console launch. It will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles with support for PSVR 2, greatly expanding the player base.

And whilst it is a shame about the delay, it feels more apt to launch a game like Phasmophobia around Halloween.

Players take part in ghosting-hunting campaigns, looking to find and record 20+ different types of ghosts. They have a variety of real ghost-hunting equipment at their disposal. Devices such as EMF readers, thermometers and night vision cameras can all be utilised to explore each location. The PC edition features 10 different haunted locations, each with unique twists, hiding spots, and layouts.

Kinetic Games has yet to confirm if the PC edition will be leaving early access once the console version arrives. The team has also kept quiet on any PSVR 2-specific features like headset haptics or eye tracking.
