Crossfire: Sierra Squad Out Now for PSVR 2 & Steam

Last week saw the release of PSVR 2 exclusive Firewall Ultra, and now another military shooter has arrived. Smilegate Entertainment has just released Crossfire: Sierra Squad for PSVR 2 and SteamVR headsets.

Smilegate originally launched Crossfire for PC way back in 2007, with several iterations arriving since then. Crossfire: Sierra Squad is the latest, and the first time the franchise has come to VR. Built specifically for immersive VR gaming, Crossfire: Sierra Squad offers a mixture of single-player and multiplayer modes.

Crossfire: Sierra Squad Gameplay

Crossfire: Sierra Squad’s main gameplay is centred around campaign-based missions. “You are the leader of an elite paramilitary fireteam within the Global Risk organization,” notes the studio. “During your mission, you will unexpectedly tangle with the rival Black List organization and find out that there is something very big at play which calls for your expertise.”

It comprises 13 single-player campaign missions in conjunction with 50 squad campaign missions (played solo or 2-player co-op). Furthermore, Horde Mode expands the gameplay by supporting up to 4-players. Crossfire: Sierra Squad will include 17 enemy variations and 39 types of weapons. These cover most weapon types, such as pistols, rifles, sniper rifles and throwable—and throwback-able—grenades.

Smilegate hasn’t said how many different locations will be on offer. However, recent screenshots highlight the following maps: Azkharzia Abandoned Village, Azkharzia Ruined Factory, Bunker, FallSite, Quandat Downtown, Quandat FallSite, Quandat Market, and Shooting Gallery.

For those on PSVR 2, the game will feature several specific features. Eye tracking support with foveated rendering should provide excellent graphics wherever players look. Plus it’ll make full use of the headset’s built-in haptics and the adaptive triggers in the Sense controllers.

Crossfire: Sierra Squad is available today for $29.99 USD.
