Last week Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) officially announced all the virtual reality (VR) games coming to PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR2) at launch. The lineup includes over 30 titles, some brand new whilst others are free upgrades to existing videogames. One of those listed was Supermassive Games’ Dark Pictures: Switchback, a spiritual successor to the studios’ previous PSVR game, Rush of Blood. Supermassive Games has now revealed a slight delay, pushing the launch back a few weeks.
Dark Pictures: Switchback will now arrive on 16th March 2023, with the studio releasing a statement on Twitter explaining why. “Switchback VR is Supermassive Games’ most ambitious VR project to date. Taking players through five extensive worlds that branch through various terror-filled rollercoaster routes based on The Dark Pictures franchise.”
The update adds: “It has always been our aim to release in the launch window of the new PSVR 2 headset but it is also massively importantly to us that you, the players, receive the most polished, terrifying experience possible when you strap in for your first ride in Switchback VR.”
“Thank you for all your excitement and patience – It really means the world to us! We cannot wait to reveal more about our sinister rollercoaster from hell.”
Just like its forebear, Dark Pictures: Switchback is a horrifying VR rollercoaster ride that players must shoot their way through. However, this time it is based within the Dark Pictures universe. The videogame will utilise PSVR2’s “unique and innovative features” to make the experience scarier and even more immersive.
You can pre-order the game now for $39.99, giving you access to the Inferno Pack, a collection of customisation options.
