French videogame company Ubisoft held its ‘Ubisoft Forward’ event this week showcasing plenty of exciting titles. One of which was the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Originally teased back in 2020, VR fans got their first glimpse at the upcoming game thanks to a trailer and screenshots. Here are all the Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR release details we know so far.
Built by Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment, the footage shown during the event was only pre-rendered CGI, meaning we didn’t get to see the game in action. Even so, it offered a taste of what’s to come while the screenshots showed the visual fidelity, which looks great!
Assassin’s Creed Nexus Gameplay
As for the gameplay, Ubisoft Creative Director David Votypka confirms: “We really made a true Assassin’s Creed game, with climbing, parkour, free running, all of that.” Adding: “Players can sprint, climb, parkour, run around on the rooftops, and do a Leap of Faith.” So the team is trying to keep the VR experience as close to the original as possible.
You’ll be able to use natural motions to block, parry, counterattack and duel with enemies. All while using a range of weapons including the hidden blade, swords, tomahawk, bows, crossbow, throwing knives, and smoke bombs. And let’s not forget all the stealth abilities the franchise is known for, ideal when getting into a fight isn’t the best solution.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Story
There will, of course, be a new storyline involving a new plot by Abstergo Industries. It’ll be a three-pronged narrative featuring Assassin’s Creed characters Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor.
Can Assassins Creed be played in VR?
The original, Assassin’s Creed – or any in the franchise for that matter – can’t be played in VR. Hence why Ubisoft is creating an original VR game based on the franchise. Due to the complexities of the original games, this is a far better outcome than a direct port, like the recent Resident Evil 4 game for Quest headsets.
Has Ubisoft made a VR game?
This won’t be the first VR game from Ubisoft. The studio has previously made titles like Transference as well as VR escape room games such as Prince of Persia: The Dagger Of Time.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Release Date
No specific release date just yet. It’ll arrive “this holiday season,” said Ubisoft, so expect Q3 or maybe Q4 2023.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Supported Headsets
It will be exclusive to Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus Price
No price has been listed for the game at present. You can wishlist the title via the Quest Store.
While XR Source was hoping to see Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR appear during the Quest Gaming Showcase, it’s great to see further details finally released.
