British indie developer Rogue Sun released its fantastical puzzle adventure Tin Hearts for Nintendo Switch in April. Ahead of further platform releases, the studio has collaborated with venerated actor Stephen Fry on a Tin Hearts animated prequel called The Little Soldier Who Dared.

The animated short follows Albert and his daughter Rose as they head to a toy-making convention. There to show off Albert’s creations and to change their fortunes, as the show closes and night falls his toys come to life!

Tin Hearts Welcomes Stephen Fry

“I first worked alongside Stephen Fry whilst developing the critically acclaimed Fable games at Lionhead Studios. We always had a vision for an expanded story on Tin Hearts, so when our Publisher suggested making a prequel story, with this wild vision of audiobooks and animation, we were in love straight away, said Rogue Sun founder and Managing Director Kostas Zarifis.

“Wired then went on to suggest Stephen as the voice they wanted, which we thought was awesome, but maybe too ambitious!” Zarifis continued. Time has moved on since Fable and our passion project for the last several years seemed a million miles away from our Lionhead days.

But Wired were pretty confident and within days we heard Stephen was up for it and willing to record over a weekend between shooting in LA. The whole project came together in mere weeks! Alongside our writing team, I was able to start crafting a new story and pour even more into the universe we’ve been building with Tin Hearts.”

The Little Soldier Who Dared is available to watch now on YouTube. An exclusive Spotify edition in audiobook form will be available soon.

Tin Hearts is available now for Nintendo Switch. The PC, PlayStation and Xbox editions launch on 16th May whilst a VR version for Meta Quest 2, PC VR and PSVR 2 lands in the summer.
