How to Record Gameplay on Quest 2

It has become part and parcel of modern gaming that everyone wants to share their gameplay sessions. Whether that’s live streaming via Twitch, showing friends a video of an awesome kill shot or simply a screenshot of your avatar’s latest gear. Gaming companies have made this process easier than ever, and the same can be said for Meta and its Quest 2 headset. So here’s how to record gameplay on Quest 2.

Years ago, screen capture for VR headsets was a cumbersome process involving PC’s additional software and cables. Thankfully, Meta Quest 2 simplifies this process with a couple of button presses. You can then upload and share the content via the Quest Mobile app to all your favourite social websites.

However, this being VR there are some settings you’ll want to play with for the best results. Like the fact that the Meta Quest 2 natively outputs in a square format – due to the square LCD displays – which can be changed if so desired. You can learn all about this by reading on.

As mentioned Meta has made this super simple with a couple of ways to take screenshots and videos. Either by pressing buttons on the controllers or going through the Universal Menu system.

  4. Get back to your game and wait for the photo to be taken

  2. Then quickly press the trigger on the same controller

Experimental Features

If you want to delve deeper into the Meta Quest 2’s Experimental Features you’ll find some interesting Camera settings.

First, you’ll need to activate the advanced camera settings – Settings>Experimental>Advanced camera settings.

Then in Settings>System>Camera scroll down to the newly unlocked features. Here you can change the Aspect Ratio of the videos to landscape (doesn’t work for screenshots yet). A word of warning, because the native aspect ratio is square, changing it to landscape will crop the image.

You can also adjust the Video Compression Quality to make them look better. This will also increase the file size.

Furthermore, there is an Image Stabilisation option if you’re recording really active content. This will decrease the overall field of view, however.
