Firmament Makes it Long-Awaited PC VR Debut Soon

Puzzle-adventure Firmament has been one of XR Source’s eagerly anticipated games for a while now. Developed by Cyan – the studio behind Myst – the title originally began as a Kickstarter campaign in 2019. Four years later and it’s almost ready for release, with Firmament making its PC VR debut in May.

The puzzler is scheduled for release on PC and Mac on Thursday, 18th May 2023. It’ll support both flatscreen and VR on PC with support for Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Rift S headsets. Meta Quest 2 owners can also play the game using either Quest Link or Air Link on their PC. Follow XR Source’s Connect Quest 2 to PC guide for more info.

There will also be a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and a PlayStation VR 2 version released. Currently, Cyan hasn’t said when those editions are likely to arrive.

A Steampunk adventure awaits

Firmament is a fantastical steampunk-themed world, where giant, mysterious machines are scattered throughout the landscape. Whether in VR or on a normal monitor, the title promises gorgeous environments to explore and secrets to uncover.

There are Three Realms of Firmament to discover, each with its own mysteries and secrets as to why this world is seemingly abandoned. To aid you on your quest you have a Silent Companion; The Adjunct. This is a clockwork device that helps you solve puzzles as it understands you and your hand gestures. This will likely become very apparent when playing the VR version thanks to the natural gestures motion controls allow.

You won’t be entirely alone either, accompanied by an Apparition. “This apparition appeared with a message from the woman that left you The Adjunct. She planned to mentor you, but something has gone terribly wrong,” the studio reveals.
