Veteran VR studio XREAL Games is best known for its military shooter franchise, Zero Caliber. First released in 2023, followed by a sequel in 2025 as well as a spinoff, the studio has just released the first teasing details of the next instalment. Rather than going for a third sequel, the team has revealed Zero Caliber: FROSTBITE.

What is Zero Caliber: FROSTBITE?
Rather than the more linear structure of the first two games, Zero Caliber: FROSTBITE takes its inspiration from the more open design of Far Cry.
While still in the early phases of development, XREAL Games explains on its Discord that the game is: “built on everything we’ve learned from Zero Caliber 1 and 2, and pushing it further.” The objectives will be more open-ended, set across a massive, singular island. You’ll be able to drive vehicles and explore, with the ability to approach enemy patrols and outposts as you see fit. This won’t be a solo adventure either, with a co-op mode also mentioned.
Additionally, the team has also teased one final detail; there’s a zombie twist.

Furthermore, playtest registrations are now open. While the studio has yet to indicate when these might start taking place, they have indicated that these will be hosted regularly. So that the community can help shape and refine Zero Caliber: FROSTBITE during development.
The playtest form also asks about preferred platforms, suggesting support for Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and Steam.
A Surprise In-store
It seems as though April is the season of giving at XREAL Games. Not only have they revealed Zero Caliber: FROSTBITE, but they’ve teased another title too.
No name for this one just yet, but it’s described as a “a hardcore tactical milsim”. Could this be Zero Caliber 3? We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
