Apple launched its Vision Pro spatial computer a couple of years ago, followed by the newer M5 upgrade at the end of 2025. But in all that time, if you wanted to watch anything on YouTube, you had to do it via the Safari browser. That’s recently changed, with Google now launching a dedicated YouTube app for Apple Vision Pro.

YouTube on AVP
This has been in the works for a while, as YouTube first mentioned a dedicated app for the device not long after its launch. You might wonder why an app is needed if you can access the platform via a browser, and the easy answer is simplicity.
Having a dedicated app means users can quickly and easily access YouTube’s vast array of content. The app also offers a streamlined interface for Vision Pro, as well as supporting 180° and 360° video viewing, including 3D. Furthermore, if you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber, you can download content to watch offline. Great if you want to use your Vision Pro on a flight, for example.
The app will adapt to video ratios, removing the black bars to improve viewing. Plus, if you do own the M5 version, you can watch in 8K, rather than 4K on the original Vision Pro.
The YouTube app for Apple Vision Pro is free to download now.
YouTube App Continues to Expand
While both Apple and Google are tech rivals, most notably in the smartphone market, YouTube is a little different. The dominating video platform usually tries to ensure it’s available on most platforms natively, not just through a browser.
This can be seen way back when the app arrived for Meta Quest (Oculus Quest at the time) in 2019. Just like the Vision Pro version, the Quest edition made it more straightforward to search and view videos. It supports 360°, 4K and 8K (on Quest 3) resolutions as well as mixed reality environments.
More YouTube Support
We’d expect to see this support for XR continuing into the future as new headsets are announced. Partially because of Android XR, as more devices like the Samsung Galaxy utilise the platform. But also headsets, including Steam Frame, with users undoubtedly wanting access to their favourite shows, movies and content creators.
Do you own a Vision Pro? How much do you watch YouTube on it? Will this app make your life easier? Let us know in the comments.
