Yesterday’s announcement of the revised Apple Vision Pro caught many off guard. For months we’ve been hearing rumours ranging from a smaller, less powerful ‘Air’ or ‘Lite’ model, to a beefed up ‘2’, right up to the project being cancelled altogether. What we actually got was a remodelled edition, with the M5 processor and a new headstrap. Moreover, with compatibility for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, Apple has assured that the Apple Vision Pro M5 edition will bring a ‘new class’ of immersive gaming.

Apple Vision Pro M5 Edition

The Apple Vision Pro M5 edition is essentially a revamp of the launch version of the device. The original model featured the 5nm M2 chip from 2022. This new edition offers the brand new M5 chip, built on a 3nm process. That’s the headline, but also there’s been refinement in terms of both graphical fidelity and user comfort.

“With the breakthrough performance of M5, the latest Apple Vision Pro delivers faster performance, sharper details throughout the system, and even more battery life, setting a new standard for what’s possible in spatial computing,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Paired with the comfortable Dual Knit Band, innovative features in visionOS 26, and all-new Apple Immersive experiences spanning adventure, documentary, music, and sports, spatial computing is even more capable, entertaining, and magical with the new Vision Pro.”

According to Apple, the Apple Vision Pro M5 edition renders 10 percent more pixels on the custom micro-OLED displays compared to the previous generation. This will result in a sharper image with crisper text and more detailed visuals. The headset can also increase the refresh rate up to 120Hz for reduced motion blur. The purpose-built R1 chip processes input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones.

Gaming on Apple Vision Pro

Gaming was never a highlight of the original Apple Vision Pro. While there have been many titles purpose built for the device, it often seemed as if Apple shied away from the category. Almost as if the company feared that the Apple Vision Pro would be pigeon-holed as a gaming device, similarly to the Meta Quest. However, this time around they’re making bold claims about gaming on the Apple Vision Pro M5.

“Gaming on Apple Vision Pro is next level with its ultra-high-resolution displays, advanced Spatial Audio system, low latency, and responsive controls across a variety of input methods, including popular game controllers like Sony DualSense, which now supports multidevice pairing.”

Launch Titles

On the Apple Vision Pro M5 edition, you’ll be able to play iPad games like Where Winds Meet, POOLS, and Sniper Elite 4. These will be played on a large virtual screen. But additionally, there’s also spatial games like Porta Nubi and Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss on the way.

“With support for the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller, players get a new class of immersive games with high-performance motion tracking in six degrees of freedom, finger touch detection, and vibration support.”

Apple even went as far as to reveal the launch line up of titles set to be compatible with the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller at the launch of the Apple Vision Pro M5 edition:

  • Elu Legend
  • Pickle Pro
  • Ping Pong Club
  • Spatial Rifts
