Sports titles a fairly abundant in VR, but some are more suited to the technology than others. While golfing lends itself very well, football (or soccer) is far trickier due to the lack of foot tracking. That means a lot of games focus on the goalie aspect of football, primarily skills training. INCISIV’s CleanSheet Pro for Meta Quest does just that, and 131XR finds a fairly solid training experience in its review.

Practice Makes Perfect

The game’s full title is CleanSheet Pro – Goalkeeper Training, and that tells you almost everything you need to know. You’re a goalkeeper, and you’re here to learn the art of stopping the ball from going into the net. More precisely, improving your reaction times, positional awareness and more to make you a better goalkeeper.

The training is built around your GKIQ (Goalkeeping Intelligence), which you initially set up at the start. This then adapts to your skill level, so you can check how well you measure up against elite keepers from around the world.

CleanSheet Pro – Goalkeeper Training Review

Right from the start, 131XR’s review notes that CleanSheet Pro has some quirks and history. Firstly, it seems to be a reskinning of 2023’s CleanSheet Football, which is available for a singular price. CleanSheet Pro, on the other hand, provides a variety of payment options, including a subscription model. While you can buy the game at a one-off price, you can also pay monthly, with a 7-day free trial available. At the top whack of £23.99 GBP/month, that makes CleanSheet Pro an expensive investment unless you’re a really avid goalkeeper.

Nonetheless, 131XR finds that CleanSheet Pro’s assortment of training options offers a decent variety of skill-based mini games. You’ll be placed inside virtual matches to stop shots on goal, or find yourself inside an arena where you have to catch balls and then rapidly redirect them. The sessions are short, fast and intense, as you expect. They make for not only great ways to practice at home, but also for general fitness.

It can also be adapted to various play spaces. Not everyone will have enough room to accommodate a full-sized virtual goal in their living room. CleanSheet Pro provides an adjustable goal that can be scaled to fit your area. Naturally, you can’t shrink it down too small – you still need a goal mouth to defend – but there’s enough flexibility that it should fit most homes.

While the pricing options might be a bit elaborate, CleanSheet Pro provides a decent goalie training simulator for fans of the sport.

CleanSheet Alternatives

As 131XR mentions in its CleanSheet Pro review, this isn’t the only title in this field. One of the most popular is Rezzil Player, which has been available for several years and offers very similar training challenges. VRFS – Football (Soccer) Simulator, however, does actually let you play football – in addition to goalkeeper modes – using an innovative control scheme.
