VRWOOD’s Little Planet has been in Early Access for quite some time. Two years, in fact. But every dog (or rabbit, or fox… thing) must have its day in the sun, and for Little Planet, that day is coming this spooky season. Little Planet is set for a full launch on Meta Quest soon, with a surprise change in its monetisation strategy to boot.

What is Little Planet?

Little Planet is a life simulation sandbox game. You’ll players shape your own world through creativity, kindness, and connection. If you’re thinking VR Animal Crossing, you won’t be a million miles away.

Not to be confused with LittleBigPlanet, Little Planet allows you to design your own world, but not games for others to play. Instead, it’s about crafting your own custom furniture from gathered resources, or sharing quiet moments under a meteor shower with your animal friends. Little Planet offers a personal space for simple moments. And it does allow you to invite friends to join you in that space, with multiplayer available for visits and trading essentials.

Little Planet Meta Quest Launch

Little Planet will officially launch out of early access on Meta Quest on 30th October, 2025. Players who have already purchased Little Planet during its two years in Early Access will receive the Founders Pack. This is a bundle of in-game content the developers value at $200 USD. This special ‘thank you’ will include in-game currency, outfits, furniture, and more, as well as items exclusive to the early adopters who believed in the team’s vision of a truly tranquil life simulation among the stars.

“Every home in Little Planet starts as a wish that players have long forgotten – but those same players have always remembered our wish and they’ve supported its development for two incredible years,” said Frank Huang, founder of VRWOOD and creative director of Little Planet. “We are so grateful to everyone in the Little Planet community for being a part of our journey and helping us shape the game that’s become our shared dream.”

Little Planet will launch with a number of new features that VRWOOD will reveal next month. There’s already plenty of content in the game thanks to 45 major updates delivered over the game’s first 20 months in Early Access, and the future looks rosy with a roadmap of content updates planned well into 2026.

Going Free-to-Play

While the eventual full launch of Little Planet is a nice surprise, a strange part of the announcement sees the game pivoting to free-to-play. As stated above, anyone who has purchased the game will receive the Founders Pack at launch. However, exactly how the game will be monetised post-launch is not currently known. There’s mention on an in-game currency; does this mean you’ll be buying in-game items with your real world money? We’ll find out soon enough.

Little Planet is available exclusively on Meta Quest and can be purchased today for $19.99 USD in Early Access. The game’s full free-to-play launch on 30th October will also herald the transition to free-to-play.
