Modern first-person shooters (FPS) are all about going up against friends and enemies and shooting them in the face. But this usually occurs on some sort of battlefield. But what if you took away all of that fluff, sat around a table and tried it instead? That’s where Devil’s Roulette comes in, and as our buddies at 131XR discover in their latest review, it’s hard to extend this idea into a cohesive experience.

The Devil’s in the Details
As you may have guessed, this is a VR game based on the infamous game of Russian Roulette. The idea is that you have a gun with an unknown number of bullets, and you play a game of chicken against your opponent. You take it in turns to pull the trigger on yourself, and if you don’t die, pass the gun on.
Devil’s Roulette for Meta Quest sticks to these basics whilst gamifying the process with unique items, hints at how many blanks are in the gun, and even gives you the chance to point the gun at other players if you want. Essentially, you and some other folks sit around a table playing dare.
Devil’s Roulette Review
The premise is simple, and 131XR’s review of Devil’s Roulette finds that the gameplay doesn’t have much depth either. Offering both single-player and multiplayer modes (up to four players), you can get a feel for it against some AI opponents first before trying to take down real-life opponents. Rounds begin by telling you how many live and blank bullets are in the gun. Each player has a set amount of lives which you need to whittle down. When it’s your turn, you choose where to point the gun, fire a blank at yourself, and you’ll get another turn. Shooting and hitting an opponent will remove their life, but then it’ll be their turn.
Adding twists to this process are items like the syringe, which can heal you. Or there’s a grabber tool to pinch items from other players. There’s even a limited-use scanner tool that’ll tell you if there’s a blank or bullet in the next chamber.
Even with these editions, 131XR finds that Devil’s Roulette is a shallow VR experience. It’s good for about five minutes, but after that, you’ll have seen it all. Watch the full review for all the details.
Devilish Updates & DLC
Developed by Bazooka Studios, the team has continued to update Devil’s Roulette. Recent editions include the Devil’s Saloon Update, adding a Wild West theme to the game. There’s also a purchasable Shotglass Saloon Bundle providing “Gunslinger” and “Wanted” Skins for players’ characters.
