3R Games are becoming quite prolific of late. Following the success of Thief Simulator VR: Greenview Street, the studio announced the upcoming physics sandbox builder Besiege VR. And now, new title Cave Crave has taken a dark turn, with a community requested featured apparently being too much for most players to handle.

What is Cave Crave?
At its heart, Cave Crave is a spelunking adventure game. According to 3R Games, it will offer the ‘most realistic VR experience of cave exploration’. This means crawling, climbing, squeezing through tight corridors and using tools to clear a path.
However, apparently this wasn’t enough. Fans of the upcoming title requested an additional – but notedly optional – gameplay mode.
“When we showed the first footage of the game, we were flooded with ADD MONSTERS requests,” said Piotr Surmacz, game director and 3R Games CEO. ”I never wanted the game to be mostly horror, so we decided monster mode would be completely optional and not related to the main game.”
When is Scary ‘too’ Scary?
Apparently, the optional player-requested mode of running-from-monsters-in-tight-tunnels thing is a bit too much for some testers.
“Some of our testers keep saying things like, ‘I can test anything, but not horror mode.’ ” Added Surmacz.
It’s not just the cramped spaces making it hard to escape; the monsters move super realistically too. The developer used algorithmic space recognition, so that the monsters’ legs react naturally to the uneven cave walls. According to the studio, that’s enough to trick your brain into thinking these creatures are seriously dangerous.

Cave Crave Launch Details
Cave Crave is coming to PSVR 2 and Meta Quest later this month. The Meta Quest edition has no specific date listed on the Meta Store. However, the PlayStation Store states 26th June, 2025.
On Meta Quest, the game is confirmed to be priced at $14.99 USD/£6.99 GBP, with a pre-order discount taking the price down to $12.99/£5.99. We’re not sure why there’s such a big delta in pricing between regions.
