Zen Studio is quite a prolific team when it comes to pinball. Sure, the studio has created various other titles – the likes of Circus Electrique and CastleStorm II in recent years – but it’s the virtual pinball they always seem to come back to. Pinball FX VR is their latest, recently launched on Meta Quest headsets, and our friends over at 131XR put together a review of the game to let you know why it’s worth diving into in VR.

Pinball FX in VR

Pinball FX VR is, as you might expect, Pinball FX in VR. The game aims to build upon the success of celebrated titles like Zen Pinball, which has over 10 million downloads to date. For almost decades, Zen Studios has caught the hearts and minds of pinball players worldwide. And the studio isn’t shy about VR, either. They’ve output a number of VR titles in recent years.

So what makes Pinball FX VR special, then? Why not just play the flatscreen game? Well, Zen Studios has used their experience in VR to make something a bit special here. Alongside an array of campaign challenges, there’s also the MR additions to the game. You can place your favorite tables in your real-world space – as well as various decorations – turning any room into a virtual pinball arcade!

Pinball FX VR Review

In 131XR’s review of Pinball FX VR, we learn that while the MR feature is a nice addition to the package, it’s not without constraints. Mainly that of space. Pinball tables aren’t small, and neither are their virtual counterparts. Whichever room you choose to become your virtual pinball arcade, you’d better make sure it’s a big one.

Or don’t, and simply enjoy Pinball FX VR as a VR title. The strength of Pinball FX has always been the way in which it faithfully recreates a real-world pinball experience digitally. And for that, according to 131XR, Pinball FX VR is no different. You can watch the full Pinball FX VR review in the video below.

How Much DLC is Too Much DLC?

The base game Pinball FX VR features three tables: Sky Pirates: Treasures of the CloudsPinball Noir, and Curse of the Mummy. Outside of that, there are trials available for the various DLC packages.

Yes, Pinball FX VR has launched with day one DLC. This is perhaps to be expected, given it’s low entry price and the series’ history of DLC offerings, but nonetheless it would’ve been nice to have a couple more tables included as standard.

The day one DLC includes Indiana Jones: The Pinball AdventureThe Addams FamilyWorld Cup SoccerTwilight Zone, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica PinballKnight Rider Pinball, and Xena: Warrior Princess Pinball. More DLC is promised to be coming soon, though no specific titles have yet been revealed.

Pinball FX VR is available now via the Meta Store priced at $9.99 USD, excluding any DLC packs. The game is compatible with Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro devices.
