We’ve had some pretty good platform adventure games in VR over the years. Lucky’s Tale was an early success, and the Moss series is highly acclaimed. However, there’s been a bit of a draught in this style of game lately. That’s due to end soon however, with My Monster coming this summer and – even sooner – we have Bearly Escape from Time Traveller.

What is Bearly Escape?
Bearly Escape is billed as a ‘VR adventure puzzle game’. When playing, you’ll be rescuing kidnapped animals that have been transformed into toys. Not exactly the deep dive into the emotional psyche of My Monster, then.
You’ll be exploring the dreamlike world of Everwood in search of the protagonist’s missing dog, Robin. As you do so, you’ll have to investigate the sinister laboratory of Dr. Kidd. He’s been capturing innocent animals, trapping their consciousness inside stuffed animals, and imprisoning them in claw machines. It’s up to you to free them. You’ll need to solve increasingly complex puzzles to sneak into eight secret labs, and then rescue trapped animals from claw machines using a specialized drone.
Throughout the adventure you’ll collect more than 40 animals and compete globally for the highest score. You can revisit puzzles multiple times to reveal new solutions as you attempt to climb that leaderboard.
Who Are Time Traveller?
Time Traveller is a two-year-old XR gaming start-up. The studio purports to have a team of over 40 full-time staff located across the US and Asia, however in XRSource’s research we couldn’t find any other projects from the team.
According to the official description of the company, they focus ‘on leveraging XR technology to create the next generation of games with interactive and social experiences for family’.
The founding team is composed of veterans from the XR, gaming, and IT industries. The founder, Kelvin Hou, offered the following: “Bearly Escape provides an immersive experience like no other by combining cinematic storytelling with engaging interactive VR gameplay,
“The team is dedicated to polishing every detail before Early Access, and we can’t wait to share more exciting news about Bearly Escape.“
Bearly Escape Launch Plans
As stated by Hou, Bearly Escape will launch as an Early Access title. The game is currently confirmed for Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S and SteamVR. That means, at present, it would seem Meta Quest 2 players are out of luck.
The Early Access edition of the game is set to launch on 1st May, 2025, priced at $14.99 USD. This first version support English and Chinese voice acting alongside subtitles for both languages.
