VR is widely known to offer many new opportunities to videogames. The immersive nature of the medium allows for depth and connection with the player otherwise unheard of. But there’s much more to it than that. The technology allows you to become immersed in worlds entirely unlike our own; and that’s where My Monsters comes in.

What is My Monsters?

My Monsters is a hand-painted VR action-adventure. Set in the dreamlike realm of Onirium, players team up with Moti – their inner monster – to explore a surreal and emotional landscape. The gameplay doesn’t sound too dissimilar to the highly regarded Moss; blending third-person exploration with first-person interaction.

Players will engage in combat and solve environmental puzzles. All the while, journeying through the depths of anxiety, loneliness, and fear in search of light. These emotional undertones will define the experience as players uncover a tale about connection, courage, and the monsters we carry within.

Developed by Ludact

My Monsters is currently in development at Ludact. The Brazilian studio has previous experience in VR, with UNBINARY, another hand-painted game from 2022. That title however, was a much brighter looking, sci-fi experience.

“We are a small team passionate about creating meaningful experiences – we hope you enjoy playing our game as much as we’ve loved making it,” said Egon Ribeiro of Ludact.

Outside of VR, Ludact has mostly concentrated efforts on mobile titles. Specifically aiming at a younger demographic, including the use of the Sesame Workshop and Cartoon Network licenses. Exactly why the studio has turned attentions to VR is not yet known, but it is a relatively common practice for studios in the XR industry to fund their unique immersive titles with more traditional game titles.

My Monsters Launch Plans

Keen to jump into My Monsters? Well, Ludact has an opportunity for you. The game is currently scheduled for a vague ‘summer’ 2025 release. Only Meta Quest has been confirmed thus far.

However, if you’re looking to give the game a taste before launch, Ludact is inviting players to join an exclusive pre-launch playtest. This is a limited opportunity for the community to explore Onirium, meet their inner monster, and help shape the final stages of development through feedback.

The playtest is open to the first 300 participants who join Ludact’s Discord. Selected players will receive access to the build and be invited to share their impressions directly with the dev team.
