Another Axiom has today delivered the first update for the recently launched Orion Drift. The successor to the hugely popular Gorilla Tag, Orion Drift is a free-to-play VR exclusive multiplayer experience. And now, a content update for Orion Drift brings a new capture-the-flag style minigame to the package, free for all players both new and existing.

What is Orion Drift?

Orion Drift launched in Autumn last year, but was only available to a select few. Last month however, the floodgates were open. Technically, the game is still in beta, but there are no limits on who can access it. As long as you have a VR headset, of course.

It’s billed as a free-to-play competitive multiplayer game. But in reality, that only tells half of the story. Orion Drift is positioned as a social hub, with plenty of spaces to interact with other players, social features and cosmetic options for your avatar. Many games propose to be a ‘platform’ – especially in VR – but few come as close as Orion Drift.

Orion Drift Content Update

The original gameplay mode, Drift Ball, plays similarly to the likes of  Space Ball and ARVORE’s Clawball (formerly known as Pawball). It’s not too dissimilar to Rocket League. However, that lone mode was never going to be enough, so now we can add Capture the Beacon to the mix.

Playing similarly to a traditional capture-the-flag mode, Capture the Beacon sees players compete to remove a suitably themed rod from the enemy base and return it to your own. However, Orion Drift brings a unique twist to the proceedings: there’s no limit to player numbers, and no need to join at the start of the match. As such, players can join an ongoing game and expand the numbers of each team significantly. Expect a madcap free-for-all.

There’s more to this update than just a new mode, of course. Full details on exactly what’s available are dripping through now as players get their hands on the update, so be sure to check your social media feeds for any cool new cosmetic items!

What’s Coming Next for Orion Drift Content?

With Orion Drift having now been available to all for around a month, it’s highly unlikely that Another Axiom will stop here. We can expect a continual flurry of new content, ranging from bug fixes to cosmetic items and new gameplay modes. It’s highly likely that we’ll see new social features adding in time as well, as all signs point towards Orion Drift pushing the ‘metaverse’ agenda alongside the likes of Fortnite very hard.
