New Folder Games’ I Am Cat is available now for PC VR and Meta Quest. It’s a game that, surprisingly, allows you to become a cat. On the surface, it may not seem that appealing. However, as you’ll find out in 131XR’s review, I Am Cat uses the immersion of VR to become greater than the sum of its parts.

Become a Cat in VR
Yes, I Am Cat allows you to become a cat. And not just play as a cat; this isn’t a 2D platformer or a new type of Nintendogs & Cats. It’s not even got a weird sci-fi storyline of a human and some machine or experiment going wrong. I Am Cat immediately puts you in the shoes – or rather paws – of being a cat. The game delivers precisely what that title promises.
This is both for better and worse, as the game is a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the most part. However, as you’ll learn in the review from 131XR below, it’s certainly not purrfect (sorry).
I Am Cat Review
If you think I Am Cat sounds like a janky mobile game brimming with microtransactions to sucker small children, you’d be forgiven. The subject matter does give the general air of untrustworthiness. In reality however, I Am Cat is an entertaining use of VR as an immersive medium.
In 131XR’s review (below), you’ll learn that I Am Cat gives you a playpen in which to experience life as a cat. Navigating around the area using your paws, you’ll be able to interact with all manner of objects, and even your owner. Moreover, for the core gaming audience there is a series of missions to engage with. The experience is open to how you as a player wish to engage with it; are you just here for a good time, or do you relish a challenge?

Who are New Folder Games?
New Folder Games is a relatively new developer on the VR scene. The studio currently has two titles available: the above I Am Cat, and also I Am Security. This second title has already proven very popular amongst the VR audience, casting the player as a nightclub security guard and tasking them with sorting out the legitimate customers from the riff-raff. Think Papers, Please, but with a significant dash of comedic value. Similar to Border Bots VR, but again, far less serious.
The studio also has a third title, Fruit Salon, on the way. This game appears to be presented similarly to I Am Security, in that you can mess about with your patrons’ appearance significantly, but pushing even more into the realms of ludicrosity.
