Back in March XR Source pondered Where are These Missing VR Games? In that selection was Survios’ much talked about but never seen Alien game. Now, finally, the first new details have arrived after almost two years. Officially called Aliens: Rogue Incursion, we have a release window and supported platforms.
The first official Alien VR game!
VR has never had an official game set within the Alien universe. The closest we’ve ever come was a VR mod for Alien: Isolation, a game released in 2014 by Creative Assembly. For the time it provided excellent VR integration thanks to its first-person viewpoint and slow, atmospheric horror gameplay.
Many fans will likely be hoping for an Alien: Isolation 2.0. Keeping those same tense, heart-pounding elements whilst providing built-from-the-ground-up VR gameplay mechanics. And there’s a lot of good reason to be excited about the game, considering VR veterans Survios are at the helm.
Alien: Rogue Incursion details
So we now know the official name, but what else? Well, Alien: Rogue Incursion will support Meta Quest 3, PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets on Steam. So it’s important to note that it’ll be a current-gen game, with no support mentioned for Meta Quest 2. While most Quest Store games support all of Meta’s headsets, some – like Townsmen VR – have begun to focus on Quest 3. By the end of 2024, that number will likely have risen.
And that’s the other main piece of information, a release window of “Holiday 2024” has now been mentioned. So expect to see a big festive push towards the end of the year. Other than that, the brief teaser trailer gives us no idea what the game looks like. No screenshots or visuals have been released at this time. We already know that it’ll be a single-player game with its own original storyline developed in collaboration with 20th Century Games.
However, Survios has said that Alien: Rogue Incursion will be: “the biggest, most ambitious VR game we have developed in our decade-long history”.
Survios’ Legacy
It has been a while since Survios released a VR game but its back catalogue speaks for itself. Starting with Raw Data in 2017 the studio has released, Electronauts, Sprint Vector, Battlewake and Creed: Rise to Glory. Making Alien: Rogue Incursion Survios’ second major movie IP tie-in.
“Our team at Survios are huge fans of Alien and have been building Alien: Rogue Incursion for a long time, honing our ability to pair the most technically advanced, immersive, and engaging VR experiences with best-in-class franchises,” said TQ Jefferson, Chief Product Officer at Survios in a statement. “This fully original story embraces all our favourite elements from 45 years of Alien, from kinetic action and heart-pounding exploration to our terrifyingly resourceful Xenomorphs that will truly make your skin crawl. We can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it this holiday season.”
