It was only a few short weeks ago that FarBridge announced Homeworld: Vast Reaches for Meta Quest. Bringing the RTS series in VR and mixed reality, the studio has confirmed a May launch date.
A new Homeworld
Homeworld: Vast Reaches is a modern, immersive take on the classic franchise. The first game was released in 1999, with a revival taking place over 15 years later. This new edition will feature a brand-new storyline whilst reimagining strategic space battles for VR and MR. The epic tale is set between Homeworld 1 & 2, with you taking on the role of Tyrra Soban, a new Fleet Command. You’ll face off against a mysterious new foe called the Radaa.
“We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Homeworld: Vast Reaches and step into the role of Fleet Command.” said Patrick Curry, CEO of FarBridge. “Making a new Homeworld game has been a dream project for us at FarBridge, combining our passions for virtual reality, outer space, and of course the rich sci-fi universe of Homeworld.”
Homeworld: Vast Reaches Gameplay
As the commander of a huge fleet of spaceships, you’ll direct them to attack, defend, and capture strategic resources. You’ll be able to build up your armada of ships whilst enjoying Homeworld’s signature three-dimensional combat encounters and environments.
With the added immersive functionality of VR or MR, you can view the action from any angle. Perfect for precisely dropping ships into command formations. This also means you can have a cosmic view of the battlefield or a far more down-to-earth view of your surroundings.
Homeworld VR Launch Details
FarBridge will release Homeworld: Vast Reaches for Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 on 2nd May 2024. It’ll also support PCVR headsets on Steam later this year. You can wishlist the game on both platforms now.
