Metro Awakening VR Story Details

No matter the medium, whether it’s video games, books or films, we all love a good post-apocalyptic world. The Metro franchise has been entertaining gamers for almost 15 years, serving up its own grim vision of a decimated planet Earth. Originally created by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro 2033 took place 20 years after the apocalyptic event. With Metro Awakening VR, the timeline and story shifts closer to that fateful day.

The upcoming VR game Metro Awakening will feature its own unique narrative, serving as a prequel. But if you’re new to the franchise here’s a quick catch-up.

Metro 2033’s story starts in 2013: “the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.”

Now in 2033, “an entire generation has been born and raised underground. And their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.” You play as Artyom, “born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat.”

Metro Awakening VR Story

Metro Awakening VR‘s story takes place five years before, set in 2028. The Moscow Metro is humanity’s last refuge and tomb, with the apocalyptic event creating a nightmarish world of monsters.

“You are Serdar, a doctor braving the darkness, crippling radiation and deadly threats of the Metro in the search for your wife and the medication she so desperately needs. As your courage and sanity are pushed to the limit you must learn to walk the line between life and death, the spirit and the material world, and awaken the being you will become…”

It certainly sounds like Serdar is no ordinary human. If you’ve played a Metro game then you’ll know that many people mutated. And you’ll have to face them in the dark tunnels of the metro. If during the course of Metro Awakening, you’re going to awaken something within the doctor, then it’s likely to be supernatural.

This could open up new gameplay abilities and mechanics not yet seen in a Metro game. We’ll have to wait and see.
