When it comes to VR headsets – especially Meta Quest – the most common accessory upgrade is the head strap. Meta always supplies its headsets with a soft strap which is fine initially but not for serious, long-term gaming. What you need is a more rugged hard strap. BOBOVR is a third-party accessory manufacturer that has just released its latest product. Called the BOBOVR S3 Pro Super Strap, this Meta Quest 3 compatible strap has a range of features including air-con.
BOBOVR seems to have gone all out for its latest design. It has very similar design features to the M3 Pro strap but with one major addition, a fan. Saying the S3 Pro Super has air conditioning is a bit of a stretch. However, the adjustable fan should help to keep players cool during energetic Beat Saber sessions. There’s an adjustment dial on the side to fine-tune the power level with 100 increments available.
How well the fan works to keep players cool remains to be seen (or felt). Plus there’s the added noise factor to consider if headphones aren’t worn. And whether the additional fan weight will have an impact on comfort. Even so, it’s a novel approach from the company.
BOBOVR S3 Pro Quest 3 Strap features
The fan isn’t the only upgrade the BOBOVR S3 Pro has to offer. The other is its upgraded battery. BOBOVR’s M3 Pro has a single, magnetically attached, 5200mah (B2) battery pack which is good for an additional 1.5 hours of use. For the S3 Pro and its new cooling system, the (B100) battery capacity has been increased to 10,000mah. At present BOBOVR hasn’t stated if the increased capacity allows for greater use time depending on how much the fan is used.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the two battery systems – the B2 and newer B100 – aren’t interchangeable. So if you have the older M3 Pro strap you currently can’t use its B2 battery on the S3 Pro. However, BOBOVR is working on a B100 upgrade kit that’ll allow M-series headstraps to use B100 battery systems. A launch is expected in Q1 2024. Also incoming during Q1 is a super charging dock. This will charge the B100 to 80% capacity in about 1 hour.
The BOBOVR S3 Pro Super Strap is available on the company’s website now with a limited-time discount until 25th February. The M3 Pro is also discounted, coming in at half the price of its newer sibling.
