Body trackers for VR are nothing new, with a niche selection of companies releasing products. HTC Vive is probably the most well-known, releasing its Ultimate Tracker system this year for $599 USD. But if you’re looking for a more affordable system, Refract Technologies is set to launch its AXIS Lite trackers this Spring.
Refract Technologies isn’t new to the VR tracking game having previously released the AXIS Standard kit. But that costs $749 for the nine-node bundle. AXIS Lite is a four-node setup that will retail for $350 at launch in May. However, you can get a significant discount on that price if you order early. Pre-orders start on 8th February 2024 at $288 until the official release.
But wait there’s more. Sign up and register your interest here and you’ll secure an exclusive Super Early Bird price of $248!
Pre-order AXIS Lite
Just like Refract Technologies’ other trackers, the AXIS Lite doesn’t require any external sensors. Two nodes are attached to each leg – above and below the knee – to track a player’s lower body movement in real-time. Designed for full-body immersion in VR, the system avoids complicated setups and wires for a streamlined experience the company says.
“At Refract, we believe VR has legs”, said Michael Chng, Co-CEO of Refract Technologies in a statement. “It is our goal to democratize full-body tracking. By making quality motion capture more accessible and affordable, we are confident that AXIS Lite will extend human experiences beyond reality for even more users. We can’t wait for people to get their hands on the AXIS Lite when it ships in late Spring.”
The system has been built with gaming in mind, supporting the likes of VRChat, Dance Dash VR, Zenith: The Last City, and Blade and Sorcery. It is compatible with SteamVR, OpenVR, OpenXR, Unity, and Unreal Engine.
