Can you feel that excitement in the air? That electrifying sizzle only comes from new gaming hardware on the verge of launch. For us VR fans, that anticipation is for PlayStation VR 2, Sony’s latest VR headset due next week. Outlets have been trickling details out as their headsets arrive including PSVR 2 unboxing videos and articles. And one thing is clear, it is far simpler than its predecessor.
It is no secret that PSVR 2 would be far more user-friendly, Sony said early on that it would require one single lead to PlayStation 5. Which is great. But as you can see from these Road to VR images below, that glossy blue and white box doesn’t hide much. Just the headset, controllers, a solitary charging cable – for the controllers – some earbuds and an instruction manual.
PSVR 2 vs PSVR 1
Compare that to the plethora of items in the original PSVR box and you might think you’re being short-changed. But fear not, Sony has jam-packed the PSVR 2 with new technology, Like inside-out tracking cameras, eye tracking, 4k display, face haptics and a really stylish design, of course. Still no integrated audio though. So you can use the supplied earbuds, or connect your own earphones via a 3.5mm jack.
As you’ll notice, the PSVR didn’t come with any controllers, utilising the PlayStation DualShock 4 or PlayStation Move. For the first time, VR gamers on PlayStation will have their own, dedicated controllers to properly connect them with each experience. Something the Move controllers never quite managed, as they were shoehorned into the role.
That’s the PSVR 2 unboxing done for now. The VR headset launches on 22nd February and can be pre-ordered for £529.99 GBP.
