Bolverk Games’ Genotype has only been available a month, yet it seems not all is well. Since Friday, 11th November, 2023, the game has been on sale for $21.99 USD in the Meta Quest Store, down from $34.99. The discount will continue until the game’s price permanently changes to $24.99 on 27th November. No reason has been given for the Genotype price drop.
This is obviously a good move for gamers looking to purchase the game. However, it will of course result in less revenue for Bolverk Games. As no reason for the Genotype price drop has been given, we can only assume that the game has seen a significant sales increase since the discount was implemented one month after launch. Of course, if this is the case, no one could blame Bolverk Games for wanting to maintain this momentum.
And with that, comes a more positive announcement. Genotype is now setting sail for Steam. No specific release date has yet been announced. However, the developer has stated that ‘the game is expected to arrive on the platform sometime in the first half of 2024’.
Genotype Post-Launch Support
Genotype recently received a significant patch. The game benefitted from updates across all platforms, but specifically for the Meta Quest 3. A Genotype Meta Quest 3 visual update was launched. The game is now able to run at the “native” resolution setting on the Meta Quest 3. This means the game will run at a resolution level equal to PCVR – the highest possible – whether with or without tethering.
What lies ahead for Bolverk Games? The award-winning indie studio from Denmark remains focused on VR games and software. According to the studio, “We were among the first to realize how VR gaming could be more than a novelty, and we are still at the forefront of a growing market, always exploring VR’s potential.”
