The launch of Meta Quest 3 earlier this month has seen an abundance of mixed reality (MR) updates appear for Quest games. One game that already features MR capabilities is CoasterMania on App Lab. Recently, the rollercoaster building title received a new update further expanding its MR potential. In addition to a new Puzzle Mode, CoasterMania now utilises the Quest 3 Room Mesh to refine track placement.

Upon initial setup of the Quest 3, the headset uses its cameras and depth sensor to create a room mesh automatically. CoasterMania then utilises this data so you can easily place the track around your home. Run the rollercoaster track along your floor, over countertops, around or over the sofa, or any other piece of furniture.

And because the game knows where all these items are, if the cart flies off the track it’ll explode when impacting furniture. Furthermore, the update also enables you to ride your living room coaster in a first-person view. In this mode, a virtual environment overlay is provided rather than riding around your room. See it in action here.

The CoasterMania Quest 3 update also has one additional experimental feature, Puzzle Mode. This provides players with physics-based puzzles that procedurally adapt to the size of their room. The objective is straightforward, collect all the rings by running the track through each one. However, you must also ensure the track returns to the station to complete the objective.

Additionally, CoasterMania also has an online sharing feature. This gives players access to unlimited community-made rollercoasters.

CoasterMania is available for Meta Quest 2, 3 and Quest Pro on App Lab and SideQuest for $10 USD/£7.99 GBP.
