Thirdverse Inc. released its VR hero shooter X8 as an Early Access title for Meta Quest and PCVR headsets in May. After a selection of updates and an eSports league run the title is finally ready for an official launch. This will take place next month the studio has now confirmed.
A free-to-play, cross-platform competitive shooter, X8 will leave Quest’s App Lab and Steam Early Access on 9th November 2023. For the launch, Thirdverse will release an exclusive Founder’s pack. This will feature four weapons only available for a discounted price to Early Access players as well as the first players who download the game between 9th November to 7th December. Additionally, all Early Access players can access Free Skin items, such as the Watermelon Skin.
Considering the game is free it’s worth downloading now for the additional items. Thirdverse Inc. notes that instructions on how to acquire these items will be available via its X8 Discord server very soon.
X8 aims for glory
The game is a 5v5 hero shooter where each match unfolds over 14 rounds. Teams must collaborate to either deploy ‘The Syphon’, a data-siphoning device that detonates after a countdown, at designated map locations during an attack or deactivate it within 30 seconds using ‘The Defuser’ in defence. The team that eliminates all attackers or thwarts deployment to score the most points emerges as the victor.
Players have a diverse roster of characters to choose from, each possessing three distinct special abilities. Classed as instant, Basic, and Ultimate, these include being able to activate turrets, tripwires and smokes. Players also have an extensive arsenal of weapons and armour to customize before each round.
X8 currently supports Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro headsets as well as PCVR on Steam. Thirdverse Inc. is also working on PSVR 2 and PICO editions, both of which it says are ‘coming soon’.
