Xbox Cloud Gaming Lands on Meta Quest 3 in December

Xbox Game Pass

During Meta’s Connect keynote in 2022, the company launched the Quest Pro and happened to mention Xbox Cloud Gaming. Nothing was heard of the feature until Connect this week, where CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the ability to play Xbox Games Pass games would finally arrive for Meta Quest 3 at the end of the year.

No specific release date has been set for the launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest, just that it’ll arrive in December. Furthermore, whilst mentioned in the same breath as Quest 3, it wasn’t specified if all Quest headsets would be supported. Considering how uniform the Quest platform tends to be, and this is using Microsoft’s cloud architecture, support for Quest 2 and Quest Pro is highly likely.

Flatscreen VR gaming

Just as you would on your Xbox, the feature will allow you to stream Xbox Game Pas games from the cloud. However, these will still be flatscreen games, played out on a giant virtual TV. This screen can be adjusted and resized to suit your needs.

There are some caveats, of course. You’ll need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a compatible controller. Also, be aware that streaming limitations apply such as server availability and varying wait times. If you’ve tried the service before you’ll know these can be anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.

Even so, this does mean Quest owners with a Game Pass subscription have plenty to play. Such as the likes of Halo InfiniteMinecraft LegendsForza Horizon 5, and many more games.

Meta Quest 3 will launch on 10th October 2023. Prices start from $499.99 USD for the 128GB model and the 512GB model for $649.99. Pre-orders are open now, with the added bonus of a free copy of Asgard’s Wrath 2 for those that do.
