BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space Brings Autism-friendly Adventures to PSVR 2

Video game developers try to cater for as many people as possible during the creation process. Including multiple accessibility options so everyone can enjoy their game. But it’s not often you see an ‘autism-friendly’ VR game arrive. That’s exactly what you get with Changingday’s BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space. Which is coming to PSVR 2 in a couple of weeks.

BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space is an intergalactic adventure designed to cater to a neurodiverse audience. Set aboard the Norpopolis Space Station, small mischievous green creatures called Groobs have escaped their lab. They’re running amok and it’s up to players to recapture them all using their Vacuumizer 5000. Whilst exploring the station players will also be able to help the local Norpopoleans complete various tasks.

Packed with autism-friendly features, these include a No-Fail State. Players can explore the virtual world at their own pace, without the fear of failure, promoting a sense of accomplishment and reducing anxiety.

  • Inclusive Design: developers have worked closely with autistic individuals to create a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all players.
  • Time-out: if you need to take a break, hit the smart watch. You’re immediately taken to The Fold, a cool, tranquil area where you can relax until you’re ready to return to the action.
  • Accessibility Menu: you can fine tune the game to suit your sensitivities. Colour, sound and other elements can be adjusted to make your visit to Norpopolis more comfortable.
  • PS VR 2: BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space takes full advantage of PS VR2’s technology to create a seamless, joyous experience.

“We are thrilled to introduce BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space to the world. Autistic people love playing video games, but games are not always designed for them. The colours can be too bright, the noises too loud, the gameplay too confusing,” says Alison, CEO at Changingday in a statement. “BLINNK is designed from the ground up for autistic players, based on considerable research about what games they enjoy, what they find challenging and what features they would like. We believe that gaming should be for everyone, and BLINNK embodies that principle.”

BLINNK and the Vacuum of Space will be available for PSVR 2 from 10th October 2023.  It’s already available on Meta Quest, SteamVR, Pico, and Viveport.
