Believe it or not, one brand that has embraced VR more than once is KFC. Having created a job training simulator a few years ago the company recently unveiled its KFC BucketVerse VR game. As part of a special summer promotion, BucketVerse VR gave players the opportunity to win real chicken by completing challenges.
Held at a popup location in Hysan Place shopping centre in Hong Kong, China, the event tasked players with catching virtual chickens. Sat inside a huge, oversized KFC bucket, they donned a VR headset to win a $60 USD (£47 GBP) KFC cash voucher as a gift. They could also share pics taken on the KFC-themed 3D backdrop to win more vouchers.
Finger-Licking BucketVerse fun
It’s the first time the company has combined its world-famous chicken with VR for customer promotion.
“The game is designed to be fun-filled and slightly addictive – much like KFC’s delicious fried chicken,” said Amy Cheng, creative director at Edelman. “It’s great when a brand actively asks for innovative ideas outside of traditional communications, and the Bucketverse is a demonstration of this… Our partnership with KFC keeps welcoming different ideas and we hope this new form of Finger Lickin’ Goodness amplifies their brand promise to more fried chicken lovers around the city.”
“We want to invite Hong Kongers into another dimension to take a brief break from hectic city life and embrace a world of creativity and fun,” adds Ms. Janet Lau, the marketing director for KFC Hong Kong. “Everyone deserves a Krispy Break, and through this campaign, we hope to show how the KFC brand is here to provide exactly that.”
The promotion has now ended with no suggestion that it’ll be made available in more territories. Although XR Source would imagine that playing a VR game for chicken would go down well anywhere.
