Valve’s Portal has seen expansions into numerous titles aside from it’s own short series. Bridge Constructor Portal was a popular merger of two videogame experiences, and the VR exclusive The Lab was one of the greatest showcases of the technology back in 2016. Now, Escape Simulator is set to bring the franchise back into VR for the first time in seven years.

Escape Simulator is, as you may have guessed, a VR escape room game. Every Escape Simulator room supports online co-op, allowing players to join forces to test their teamwork and tackle puzzles together. A growing collection of interactive escape rooms includes a number of unique locations. Egypt, space, a mansion, a steampunk airship, Leonardo’s Workshop and the Wild West are soon to be joined by the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center.

Valve’s Portal as Escape Simulator DLC

Escape Simulator’s upcoming Portal Escape Chamber DLC takes players behind the scenes at the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center. Unsurprisingly, this is in the form of a Portal-themed escape room. In this new DLC designed by Pine Studio with permission from Valve, a minor workplace incident involving thermal discouragement beam emitters has the Aperture Laboratories on lockdown. Yo, and up to nine other players, are trapped inside.

The upcoming Portal Escape Chamber is designed to test your anti-containment and cooperation skills. Players must escape in a timely manner, as the effects of prolonged exposure to deadly neurotoxins are not part of this test. Please don’t panic, as you may distract your fellow test subjects. You’ll need to solve puzzles, repair a Personality Core, reunite with old cubed-shaped friends, and break Aperture Laboratories’ safety protocols to escape.

Most importantly, this time around, the cake is not a lie. So say Pine Studio.

The Portal Escape Chamber DLC will launch for free on 7th September, 2023. Will you be entering the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center? Let us know in the comments below!
