Cards & Tankards is a new trading card game (TCG) designed for VR. Developed by Divergent Realities, Cards & Tankards aims to replicate the feeling of games like Magic the Gathering and Pokémon TCG in VR, offering players the opportunity battle against human opponents and AI adversaries.
According to Divergent Realties, Cards & Tankards is ‘thoughtfully designed to recreate the experience of a local game shop’. Through VR, the game aims to offer a sense of community and camaraderie, even when thousands of miles away.
The game offers over 160 cards to collect. Players earn new cards from wins, daily rewards or buying them from the innkeeper. Players use them to construct decks to battle against other players or the AI opponents. The cards are all divided into four factions. Each faction has their own unique combat mechanics for players to learn and experiment with. What’s more, Cards & Tankards offers cross-platform multiplayer. This makes it easy to connect with friends, whether or not they’re playing in VR.
There’s a whole host of customisability options. Make a unique avatar with new outfits, gear and accessories. Or adopt a pet to accompany you. No one’s entrance into the tavern will be quite like any other player’s.
Cards & Tankards Meta Quest 2 Release
“Divergent Realities was founded with a mission to challenge preconceived notions about what would be possible within the medium of Virtual Reality,” said Chris “Avid” Atwater, Creative Director and Lead Game Designer of Divergent Realities. “Cards & Tankards is our first game, and we believe it exemplifies that mission by bringing an unconventional and innovative idea to life.”
Cards & Tankards is already available on Steam in both VR and non-VR modes. With the Meta Store release, the game is now accessible to even more players on the popular VR platform. This edition supports Meta Quest, Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. The game is free-to-play. It does, predictably, feature a season pass system with numerous in-game rewards. Complete the quests to receive ‘exclusive’ in-game items.
Cards & Tankards has received praise from players and critics alike for its immersive VR experience and unique gameplay experience. “We’re excited to bring this innovative game to the Meta Quest Store, and we can’t wait to see how players respond to it,” added Atwater.
