Hellsplit: Arena has been doing the rounds on VR formats for some time. Debuting for PC VR back in 2019 the game finally made its way to Meta Quest headsets last year. Now however, it’s time for something new. Developers Deep Type Games have revealed their next project with a very different aesthetic: Cute & Dead.

What is Cute & Dead?
Cute & Dead is a VR shooter inspired by a very specific ’90s classic. Bright and colourful environments, wacky enemies and a bit of slapstick humour as you use a variety of weapons to take out undead hordes and save the girl. Or rather, girls. The game features 30 unique ‘girlfriends’ to meet and save, as well as a dog companion who fights by your side.
The official description of the game reads as follows: “You might look like a typical nerd, but even a zombie apocalypse won’t stop you from asking the hottest girl in school out on a date. All you need to do is find her and rescue her from hordes of the living dead.”
“We’re thrilled to introduce Cute & Dead – a fast-paced zombie shooter with collectible elements and a dating-sim twist. The combat is fast, chaotic, and just plain fun – blending the nostalgic vibe of classics like Zombies Ate My Neighbors with modern VR technology,” reads an official communication from Dead Type Games to XRSource. “You play as a nerd schoolkid rescuing beautiful girls during a zombie apocalypse.”
Not Cute & Undead
As stated above, Deep Type Games had spent many years supporting Hellsplit: Arena. While Cute & Dead appears to be a very different kind of game, the studio’s pedigree should not be overlooked. Hellsplit: Arena was very well received as a PC VR title and also welcomed on Meta Quest.
Our friends over at 131XR delivered a review of the Meta Quest edition of the game at launch, stating; “If you are a Meta Quest user and you’re looking for a new combat experience, we highly recommend you check this one out.”

Cute & Dead Launch Plans
Deep Type Games has already revealed their intentions for the launch of Cute & Dead. The game will be coming first to the Meta Quest in July 2026, compatible with Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro headsets. PC VR, via Steam, will follow later in the year.
At present, there are no plans for a PSVR 2 version of Cute & Dead. However, in their communication wiuth XRSource the studio stated, “We’re not ruling it out down the road.”
