Fight Back in the Latest Scary Baboon Update

Scary Babboon Fight Back Landscape

Scary Baboon, one of the more successful Gorilla Tag clones, has just received its biggest update to date. Called “Fight Back”, it allows players to do just that, attacking the monsters that inhabit this virtual world for the first time on Meta Quest.

The Fight Back Update

Following on from its Dreamcore update almost a month ago, this new content addition helps to even the odds. A highly requested feature by the Scary Baboon community, for the first time, players don’t need to run. They can actually turn around and knock back the monsters hunting them.

Scary Baboon works because we have one of the strongest communities in the world pushing us forward,” said Kyle Joyce, CEO of ENVER. “Players have wanted to fight back against the monsters for a long time, and this update finally lets them do it. But we’re not ruining what makes the game work: you might be able to hit the monsters, annoy them, push them around a little, but they’re not going anywhere. Take it far, they come back even harder. That is the fun of it.”

The monsters don’t die, but the ability to retaliate does give you some breathing room. However, fight back too much, and they’ll become enraged, and you don’t want that!

What is Scary Baboon?

If you’ve not come across Scary Baboon on Meta Quest, its been in Early Access since 2023. As mentioned, it joined a long line of Gorilla Tag clones, utilising the super popular social titles’ physical movement system. However, adding its own unique twist, Scary Baboon is a social horror game where players explore a laboratory filled with unkillable monsters.

In this ever-changing lab, players have to run, hide and survive. Filled with jump scares, customisation options and social chaos, the game has proved hugely popular since its launch three years ago.

Gorillageddon

Ever since Gorilla Tag officially arrived on the scene in 2022, there have been countless copies of its social format. Many of these are terrible knock-offs which Meta has tried to keep on top of and remove. Some, on the other hand, have proven to be decent games in their own right.

At the time of writing this, Gorilla Tag sits at number two in Quest’s top sales chart, while Scary Baboon keep’s the number ten spot. And then you have Animal Company at number four, a game based around Lethal Company but with Gorilla Tag mechanics. All of these are free to download and play right now, which is one of the main reasons they’ve become so popular.
