Honestly, there aren’t as many real-time strategy (RTS) games in VR as XRSource would like. Unfortunately, rather than gaining more, this year we’re set to lose one. And it just so happens to be one of the best RTS card battlers around, Vertigo Games’ Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl.
What is Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl?
If you’ve not heard of Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl, the game launched way back in 2019, originally for PCVR via HTC’s Viveport as a spin-off of 2017’s Skyworld. That same year saw support expanded to Steam, then Quest and also PSVR.
It was designed mainly as a multiplayer card battler, offering over 20 unique battle arenas and dozens of card options to deploy troops and cast spells. With its colourful design and varied strategic options, it was well received by players. However, the first nail in its coffin came last year in July, when Vertigo Games confirmed that the co-op/multiplayer modes would no longer be available.
7 Years of RTS Battling Ends
This week, the studio then confirmed what those still playing had long feared: a complete shutdown. In a blog post, the team said: “We’ve made the difficult decision to switch off the servers for the game on July 11, 2026. From that day onwards, the game will no longer be playable.”
So that does mean if you do own the game, you’ve got a few more months of enjoyment to go. The post also made mention of delisting, stating “As of today (2nd April), the game has also been delisted from the store and is no longer available for purchase.”
At the time of writing, XRSource couldn’t find Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl on the PlayStation Store. However, it was still available to purchase on the Meta Quest and Steam.
The original Skyworld is still available for PCVR and PSVR, albeit without multiplayer support.
Other RTS Games to Fill the Void
Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl made XRSource’s list of The 7 Best VR RTS Games for Meta Quest in 2025. So it looks like we’ll have to update that listing later this year, and find a new title worthy of the best RTS card battler trophy.
Fret not, as the likes of Demeo, Crystal Commanders, Vestiges: Fallen Tribes and several others are still available to quench those RTS needs. Which is your go-to of choice?
