As you may or may not be aware, when folks go spelunking (or caving), for safety, they never venture underground alone. Or they shouldn’t, at least. If you’ve been enjoying 3R Games Cave Crave, then you’ll know that up to now, solo caving is all you could do. However, that’s about to change this coming week with a new multiplayer update for Cave Crave.

Cave Crave Review

The Multiplayer Update

Since its launch last summer for Meta Quest (followed by PSVR 2 & SteamVR), you’ve been able to explore claustrophobic crawl spaces and caverns all by yourself. Hopefully, not getting lost in the process. On 9th April 2026, 3R Games will launch the multiplayer update, thus allowing co-op exploration.

Cave Crave continues to grow alongside its community, and multiplayer is an exciting step forward for the experience,” said Piotr Surmacz, CEO of 3R Games. “Testing the new mode has been an absolute blast, and we can’t wait to share more about what players can expect very soon.”

Details regarding how many players will be supported and how the gameplay will work have yet to be released. XRSource would imagine that this will work similarly to real-life caving, working as a team, one person leading the way through the tight passageways and so forth.

While Cave Crave supports multiple headsets, the multiplayer will only be released for Meta Quest first. Arriving for additional platforms at a later date.

Cave Crave Review

As XRSource found in our launch review, Cave Crave is an interestingly atmospheric VR experience. There are times when you’ll unintentionally hold your breath as you squeeze through tight spaces. There is a narrative as to why you’re exploring this underground system, but mostly it’s about exploring at your own pace.

Obviously, since then, 3R Games has released new updates, including adding the Nutty Putty cave.

More From Cave Crave

The multiplayer update might be the next to arrive for Cave Crave fans, but there’s a bigger content addition being developed. As the studio announced back in February, it’s working on recreating Thailand’s Tham Luang Cave in VR. This was the cave system which gained global attention in 2018 after a teenage football team became trapped inside after sudden flooding.

Alongside Nutty Putty, Tham Luang forms part of 3R Games’ “Real Caves in VR” initiative. Meaning we’re expecting to see even more real-world locations arrive at some point.
