XRSource has been excitedly following Wales Interactive’s Maid of Sker VR since its announcement last October. If you’ve been reading our coverage, you’ll know that’s been tough. Mostly because the studio has been radio silent since then. However, that changed this past week with the team confirming the Maid of Sker launch date for Quest, PSVR 2 and PCVR.

Final Launch Confirmation

It was back in November when Maid of Sker missed its multiplatform launch window. That same month, the Steam listing highlighted a ‘March 2026’ window, but nothing for the other platforms. A couple of months later, 17th March popped up on Steam, seemingly confirming the PCVR release, at least. As mentioned, without even a peep from Wales Interactive.

Thankfully, all that doubt has been cleared up in a blog post. The studio has confirmed that on 17th March 2026 – just over a week away – the survival horror will arrive for Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and SteamVR headsets (including Valve Index, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality).

Maid of Sker Gameplay

Maid of Sker VR is a survival horror with a strong narrative steeped in Welsh folklore. “Set in 1898 and inspired by the haunting Welsh tale of Elisabeth Williams, this is a story of a family empire driven by torture, slavery, piracy and a supernatural mystery that suffocates the grounds of the hotel.”

Players will encounter “The Quiet Ones”, sound-based enemies that you cannot attack, only defend yourself from. Meaning silence is the key, stealthily exploring the hotel as you look for answers. As Wales Interactive explains: “Maid of Sker VR focuses on grounded VR interaction, careful movement and the tension of non lethal survival.”

Best VR Horror Games

Maid of Sker was originally a flatscreen game released in 2020, delivering a very well-received slice of survival horror. Hopefully, that can translate well into VR, as we all know how well the genre works on the technology.

It might even be able to compete with some of the best VR horror games currently on the market. We’ll wait and see.
