For players seeking an open-world crime experience reminiscent of classic Grand Theft Auto titles, Viper Vice is an upcoming VR game that aims to deliver a large, explorable city, dynamic missions, and player-driven narrative progression on Meta Quest headsets. Developer Sky Yurt and publisher Visceract are positioning Viper Vice as a physics-based action title that fills the void left by stalled or cancelled VR GTA projects.

Viper Vice’s Quest for Open-World VR Crime

Viper Vice is set in a stylised urban environment inspired by 1980s crime worlds. You’ll be exploring neon-lit downtown districts, sunny beachfront avenues, and diverse neighbourhoods. You enter the world as a gun-for-hire mercenary. It’s your job to navigate the underworld, where your reputation can affect and the balance of power among rival gangs.

Unlike many smaller or linear VR shooters, this game is designed around a living, open world with pedestrians, traffic systems, and reactive environments. Vehicles ranging from muscle cars to vans can be stolen and driven through the city. Missions vary from planned heists to spontaneous gang encounters.

Gameplay and Player Interaction

At its core, Viper Vice combines first-person combat, narrative choice, and exploration. You’ll engage in physics-based combat that leverages VR controls for gun handling, melee interactions, and contextual actions. AI-controlled civilians, traffic, and law enforcement contribute to an environment where consequences matter. For example, escalating criminal activity can draw heavier police responses.

The game’s mission structure includes branching objectives. Success or failure may influence your standing with influential figures or rival factions. These systems allow you to carve your own path through the city’s power struggles, choosing whether to ally with powerful individuals or risk opposition from those who control key territories.

Viper Vice’s world also features unlockable gear and vehicles that you can access as you progress. As with many open-world titles, the freedom to explore at your own pace, whether chasing down contracts, evading law enforcement, or carving out territory, is central to the experience.

Viper Vice Development and Early Access Plans

Viper Vice is in development for Meta Quest headsets, with an anticipated Early Access launch on 13th February, 2026. The developer has previously discussed plans for a 70-mission main campaign, multiple gang factions, and a turf war system that influences how law enforcement and rival groups respond to the player’s actions. However, it’s not yet known how much of this content will be available during the Early Access phase of the game’s launch plans.

What This Means for VR

If Viper Vice delivers on its ambition of a sandbox crime world in VR, it will represent a notable step toward larger, more complex game structures on standalone hardware. The title’s focus on player choice, physics-based interactions, and open exploration may appeal to players who have been looking for deeper, narrative-driven VR experiences beyond wave shooters and smaller action games.

As always with Early Access titles, final quality and performance will depend on continued development and community feedback.
