Skydance Interactive has undoubtedly built a solid virtual reality (VR) reputation thanks to The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners games. But there’s something more prominent on the horizon. Having excited fans last year with the announcement of Behemoth for PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) and Meta Quest 2, the studio has released a brand-new cinematic trailer to whet those VR RPG appetites.
Giving off a mixture of Skyrim mixed with Ico vibes, Behemoth will be built around survival more than anything else. While players look set to battle human-sized opponents, the real draw is the giant monsters that’ll tower over players like mountains.
Purely cinematic footage (so no teases yet as to how the gameplay will transpire), it nonetheless provides a tantalizing look at what is to come. As Skydance Interactive describes the trailer: “Behemoth’s brutal yet tactical VR combat and breathtaking traversal gameplay as players conquer monolithic beings in a grim, unforgiving world.”
A colossal world awaits
Adding to the description the studio also notes:
“In Behemoth, players will explore the plague-ravished wasteland of a once glorious empire, where its inhabitants are driven mad and cities have fallen to ruin. In glorious VR fashion, players’ bodies and minds will be tested as they combat towering colossal giants called Behemoths. Raw strength won’t be enough, however, as they must use various tools in their arsenal to defeat these gigantic creatures and the other nightmarish enemies that scour this brutal world in their quest for a possible cure.”
Meta Quest 2, PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets are all slated to support Behemoth in 2023. Considering the high quality of its previous titles, Behemoth could turn out to be one of the most exciting VR titles of the year.
