In August last year, iTales VR announced that Vortex 9 VR Version was coming to VR. Now, under the guise of iWorlds, the game has officially been announced for launch on Meta Quest headsets in February 2026. The game has been refined from its PC and mobile roots, with the FPS/TPS switching system built specifically for VR players.
Vortex 9 is a Hit
If you haven’t heard of Vortex 9, you may have been living under a rock. The game now has a player base of more than 10 million players across mobile and PC. An impressive feat. The game is known for its colourful arenas, outrageous weapons, and loyal combat pets.
The upcoming Meta Quest version introduces VR mode, letting players step inside the world of Vortex 9 for the first time. However, importantly for existing fans of the game, the VR edition is fully compatible with the existing ecosystem.
Bringing the Game to VR
As stated above, Vortex 9 for Meta Quest will include a fully immersive VR mode. The game’s FPS mode has been built entirely from scratch to accommodate this. However, if you’re a fan of the classic TPS perspective, on Meta Quest the game will feature instant switching between FPS and TPS views during gameplay. This means VR players will be able to fight in the same battles, use the same weapons and pets, and progress alongside millions of mobile and PC players.
The initial reveal of Vortex 9 on Meta Quest took place during the Meta Developer Competition, where iWorlds participated with its early VR build of Vortex 9. During the competition, the team created the foundation for VR gameplay, prototyped the FPS/TPS switching system, and ensured cross-play compatibility.
Vortex 9 Meta Quest Launch
According to iWorlds, the team is putting the finishing touches to the VR edition of the game. In a refreshingly open statement, they revealed that there’s still work to be done on fundamentals such as the UI/IX and visual polish. However, they are also digging deep into “integrating VR-appropriate monetization” ahead of the launch.
And that Vortex 9 Meta Quest launch window has been set for February 2026. There’s no specific date currently, but we’re certain to learn more about it in due course.
